How specific cancers use metabolism to support proliferation is influenced by factors in the tumor microenvironment, including nutrient availability, with nutrient availability in tissues differing from those found in blood. We have found that altered levels of nutrients present in different microenvironment contexts can influence the tissues where cancer can grow. They can also impact gene expression changes, and the redox state of cells, which also influences events associated with cancer progression. These findings and related topics on how investigation of cancer metabolism inform the biology of cancer will be discussed.
