CRG GROUP LEADER, PEDRO CARVALHO, ELECTED 'EMBO YOUNG INVESTIGATOR'
The young researcher Pedro Carvalho, head of the Biogenesis and Organelle Homeostasis laboratory at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), has been elected EMBO Young Investigator. This recognition allows researchers under 40 to boost their own research groups in their early years. With the appointment of Pedro Carvalho, CRG already has three elected EMBO Young Investigator: Pedro Carvalho, Ben Lehner and Fyodor Kondrashov.
Pedro Carvalho arrived at CRG in 2010 and since then has achieved prestigious grants and awards such as the ERC Starting Grant or the 'Howard Hughes Medical Institute International Early Career Scientist' award. His research focuses on the study of the biogenesis and degradation of proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum of the cell and how these molecular processes are related to several diseases.
Three researchers have been selected in Spain, all of them located in Catalonia. The other elected researchers are Melike Lakadamyali at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) and Tomas Marques-Bonet at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) .
