The Centre for Genomic Regulation hosted the 3rd Quantomics Consortium Meeting.
Quantomics is a Collaborative project under the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). This project aims to deliver a step-change in the availability of cutting edge technologies and tools for the economic exploitation of livestock genomes. 
This project puts together the use of next generation sequencing data with the design of new methods for a better understanding of these genomes. “Studying livestock genomes is a good contribution for stockbreeding and for farm industry but, it is also a very good population sample to be studied. As a researcher focused on evolution, it is very exciting to be part of this project because livestock has been traditionally subjected to a strong selection so, you can see an amplified version of all evolutive processes of selection by studying their genomes”, explains Cedric Notredame, one of the CRG researchers involved in this project.
The meeting was held at the CRG with more than 20 researchers from all over Europe and Australia. Participants have been sharing their latest results and planning the future of this project, with exciting discussion on the use of RNA sequencing data (High throughput transcriptomic sequencing) for the systematic re-annotation of farm animals.
