23/01/202510:00RAMÓN Y CAJALCRGJude FitzgibbonQueen Mary University of London (QMUL)Cancer Research - what's your why?Host: Subirana Soriano, LaiaAbstract:Jude Fitzgibbon, PhD, received his Bachelor of Arts in Genetics from Trinity College Dublin in 1989 before gaining his Doctor of Philosophy at University College London in 1993. He was Professor of Personalised Cancer Medicine at the Barts Cancer Institute (2013-2022) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) where he led the Centre of Cancer Genomics and Computational Biology (2017-2022). More recently, he worked as Vice President of Haematology Discovery and Target Identification at Astrazeneca in Boston, USA (2022-24). His research focused on genetic and epigenetic changes responsible for the development and progression of leukaemia and lymphomas and their treatment. He has held numerous leadership roles, including the Chair of the UK's National Cancer Research Institute Lymphoma Science Subgroup, membership of several Grants Committees including CRUK, Blood Cancer UK, Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca sul Cancro, Danish Cancer Charity and was an Associate Editor for the British Journal of Haematology. He also served as a Male Change Champion for the Women in Lymphoma international alliance and received a Special Commendation from CRUK for public engagement. He currently works as an independent consultant while holding an honorary Professor position at QMUL.
