NEW RESEARCH PROGRAMME: GENE REGULATION, STEM CELLS AND CANCER
As of today, the CRG has a new research programme called Gene Regulation, Stem Cells and Cancer which will focus on the study of the mechanisms controlling gene expression and how these mechanisms may map out the cell fate. In this way, it will be possible to know in detail how the cells come to be specialised and also what makes them fall sick and become cancerous.
The new programme includes the former Gene Regulation and Differentiation and Cancer research groups. The two programmes shared many projects and their research was closely related so it was finally decided that the two should merge.
On an organisational level, Dr. Thomas Graf will continue to lead his research group and will share the coordination of the new programme with Dr. Juan Valcárcel, who also directs his own research group at the centre. Dr. Miguel Beato, who until now has been coordinating one of the merged programmes, will continue to act as senior group leader.
This merger is part of a reorganisation proposed by the CRG’s scientific advisory board and management in order to optimise resources and create synergies bringing together research groups working in the same field.
