Symposium overview

The year 2011 marked two important milestones: first, the centennial anniversary of International Women’s Day and second, the centennial anniversary of Madame Curie’s receipt of the Nobel Prize in chemistry. Over the course of the past century, women have often faced unique challenges in the workplace and the sphere of science is no exception. The goal of this half-day event is to reflect upon these themes and to provide a platform for discourse, all the while celebrating significant landmarks pertaining to women in science.  To that end, the symposium will feature a panel discussion centred around relevant issues and challenges facing women scientists, in addition to two keynote lectures which will shine the spotlight on the scientific achievements of two notable female scientists, by affording them the opportunity to elaborate on their work.
