Symposium "From fundamental research to medical unmet needs" - 2nd Edition
Symposium "From fundamental research to medical unmet needs" - 2nd Edition
Organizers: Sergi Serrano1, Joan Albanell1, Luis Serrano2, and Michela Bertero2
(1Hospital del Mar-IMIM; 2CRG)
Overview:
Translating scientific and technological advances from research laboratories to clinical practices has a vast potential for benefit, with the ultimate goals of curing patients and improving people’s health. However, multiple challenges are inherent in this process, including technical, cultural, societal, and ethical issues. This mini-symposium brings together basic researchers from the CRG and clinicians from the Hospital del Mar in an informal setting to exchange knowledge, know-how, and latest results. The ultimate goal of this meeting is to identify research areas of common interest and to allow researchers from both institutions to join forces and work together to tackle complex biological problems and medical unmet needs.
Speakers from the CRG and Hospital del Mar will give short presentations (~15 min each, including discussion) to present their main lines of research and ideas for potential collaborative projects. An hour-long coffee-break will allow networking and getting to know each other. We believe that both parts (understanding the collaboration potential and networking with colleagues) are critical for moving forward in this effort, and we hope you will be able to attend.
The Hospital del Mar is a modern general and university hospital, with research activity developed at IMIM (the hospital research institute) aimed at treating pathologies of medium to high complexity. The CRG is an international biomedical research institute of excellence with an interdisciplinary scientific team focused on understanding the complexity of life, ranging from the genome to the cell to the whole organism, and the interaction of organisms with their environment.
