At CRG, we believe that language is more than just words—it’s a bridge to integration, collaboration, and personal growth. That’s why we offer free Catalan, Spanish, and English courses to all employees, visitors, collaborators, and EMBL Barcelona staff.

General Information: 

Format: Online sessions via Teams, supported by an online learning platform for materials, resources, and communication with the teacher 
Schedule:  Twice a week for one hour (Mon & Wed or Tue & Thu)  
Group Size: Approx 7 participants 
Levels: From beginner to advanced 
Eligibility: CRG staff and visitors and EMBL Barcelona staff 
Semester duration: Spring (February – June) and Autumn (October – December); enrollment can be done on a monthly basis)

Spanish A1: Mon&Wed (18:00-19:00); Tue&Thu (8:30-9:30) 
Spanish A2: Mon&Wed (13:00-14:00) 
Spanish B1: Tue&Thu (18:00-19:00); Tue&Thu (13:00-14:00) 
Spanish B2: Mon&Wed (18:00-19:00); Tue&Thu (13:00-14:00) 
 
Catalan A1: Tue&Thu (13:00-14:00); Tue&Thu(18:00-19:00); Mon&Wed (8:30-9:30) 
Catalan A2: Mon&Wed (13:00-14:00) 
Catalan B1: Mon&Wed (18:00-19:00) 
 
English B1: Tue&Thu (8:30-9:30)

Enrolment:
Enrollment in the courses can be done on a monthly basis*, if there are free slots available. Simply fill out this form at any time and Berlitz language school will reach out to you to complete the needs assessment and level test. Once your level has been determined, you will be placed in a group that matches your proficiency (if there are slots available). At this stage, you will be able to confirm or decline participation in the course. 
* If you're a newcomer at the institute, you will first need to get the institutional email and NIE/DNI.  

Conditions: 

  • The courses are fully funded by the CRG and are therefore free for participants.  
  • The classes take place during working hours and therefore do not need to compensate for the time. 
  • A minimum attendance of 80% per month (based on connections to classes) is required.  
  • 80% attendance checks will be done on a monthly basis, and participants failing to meet this requirement will become ineligible to enrol by the end of the semester and will be replaced by the next candidate on the waiting list. 
  • Certification will only be provided if you attend more than 80% of the classes. 
  • When you are unable to attend a class, please remember to email customerservice@berlitz.es by 3:00 pm the day before indicating the reason for the absence. 

This attendance policy ensures effective learning, which is our primary objective in providing these courses.
