Day 2: Tuesday 23 April 2024 - Fluorescence Microscopy & Optical Sectioning 

  • Light sources for bioimaging  
  • Cameras for bioimaging    
  • Detectors for bioimaging and the airyscan technology 
  • Introduction to fluorescence microscopy    
  • Fluorescent dyes and proteins    
  • Sample preparation 
  • Optical sectioning and confocal microscopy      
  • Nonlinear optical microscopy    
  • Lightsheet microscopy 

Day 3: Wednesday 24 April 2024 -  Quantitative Bioimaging I. 

  • Live-cell imaging 
  • Measuring molecular dynamics and interactions: FRAP, FLIP, FLAP, FCS, FLIM, FRET, FCCS 
  • Biological electron microscopy: techniques and applications 
  • Fluorescence microscopy practical sessions - widefield and confocal microscopy 
  • Evening social activity 

Day 4: Thursday 25 April 2024 - Quantitative Bioimaging II. 

  • FAIR Bioimaging, bioimage processing and data management    
  • Introduction to bioimage analysis with a practical session   
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning in bioimaging with a practical session  

Day 5: Friday 26 April 2024 - Super-Resolution Microscopy 

  • Introduction to super-resolution Microscopy and Structured illumination microscopy (SIM)
  • STimulated Emission Depletion microscopy (STED) 
  • Single-Molecule Localisation Microscopy (SMLM) 
  • Introduction to bespoke microscope design
  • Microscope platforms and core imaging units
  • Super-resolution microscopy practical sessions
