Courses@CRG: CRISPR-CAS9 tool: From Gene to Function

The CRISPR-Cas9 technology, which is revolutionizing research that relies on editing genes, enables researchers to construct novel experiments in a wide range of fields—from basic biomedical research to biotechnology and medicine. It is now possible to create knock-ins, knock-outs and mutations of any gene in any cell line or organism with high efficiency.

This hands on course will provide an overview of tools for the experimental design of proteins, genome editing and cell engineering using the CRISPR-Cas9 system and hands-on training on using bioinformatics tools, generation of knock-in /knock-out, and target validation using the most current technologies.

Expert scientists in the field will hold round table discussions with the participants.

The participants will gain knowledge in:

  • Advanced investigation methods in enzymology and protein science and become familiar with the latest discoveries and the underlying principles, methods and potential applications of the CRISPR/Cas9 system.
  • Design of target specific CRISPR/Cas9 reagents for a specific genomic target and be able to analyze and assess the results obtained using the CRISPR/Cas9 system.
  • Selection of appropriate delivery vectors and editing strategies for a given project.
  • Generation of gene knock-out or knock-in modified cells.
  • Methods for mutation detection and cell manipulation using the most current technologies.
