UAB Social Council awards Mara Dierssen for her research in the field of Down Syndrome
At this year's edition of the UAB Social Council Night, researchers Mara Dierssen and Fàtima Bosch, businessman Cristóbal Colón and writer Carlos Ruiz Zafón (in memoriam) were awarded.
CRG researcher Dr. Mara Dierssen, Group Leader of the Cellular & Systems Neurobiology group, has been awarded the University-Society prize by the Social Council of the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB).
The prize was awarded “for her research and dissemination activity in the field of Down syndrome, of international renown and prestige, and for her social commitment and ability to lead cultural initiatives for people living with Down syndrome.”
The prize was given at an act held on the 14th of December and streamed live. Other winners include a posthumous award for writer Carlos Ruiz Zafón (1964-2020), founder of La Fageda Cristóbal Colón and researcher Fàtima Bosch.
In parallel, Mara Dierssen has also been recognized at the 23rd annual International Foundation of the Entrepreneurial Woman (FIDEM) awards. Mara received the Fidem 2020 Award for Professional Trajectory, citing her research on Down Syndrome the transformative capacity of music.
Mara also received a commendation this month from the Society of Female Entrepreneurs of Cantabria (ADMEC) for her work on Down syndrome. The announcement was made in the Parliamentary Chamber of the autonomous community of Cantabria.
