THE "la Caixa” INTERNATIONAL PhD PROGRAMME STARTS ITS 3rd EDITION
This programme aims to boost Spanish biomedical research by recruiting students from all over the world to the main biomedical research institutes in Spain: the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), the Spanish National Centre of Biotechnology (CNB-CSIC), the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB Barcelona) and the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG).
The “la Caixa” Fellowships ceremony for the candidates of the 2010 call was held on July 18th in CosmoCaixa, Barcelona. The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia, the General Director of “la Caixa”, Juan María Nin and the General Director of the “la Caixa” Foundation, Jaume Lanaspa. The directors of the four beneficiary centres as well as student representatives also delivered short speeches highlighting the importance of these fellowships for their institutes and carreers, respectively. All of them acknowledged “la Caixa” Foundation for the funding, which promotes scientific excellence in Spain.
10 PhD students joined the CRG thanks to this programme last September. They will carry out their research projects for the next four years. Students come from 8 different countries over the world, from Italy to Australia, Brasil or Poland.
This is the 3rd “la Caixa” International PhD Programme call, an initiative that will culminate next year with 160 students funded by “La Caixa” and a total investment of 18,4 milion euros.
