  • The Board of the Centre for Genomic Regulation has appointed Bruna Vives as the centre’s new CEO.
  • Vives takes over from Marian Marrodán, who has successfully led the institute from its creation.

After an open selection process led by an external company, supported by a specific internal panel headed up by the director of the CRG, Luis Serrano, the centre’s Board approved the appointment of Bruna Vives as new CEO. “Bruna Vives brings together management, leadership and organisation skills, and has in-depth knowledge of the organisation. All these aspects will allow her to work in the most professional way possible with a clear orientation towards the needs of the centre” explains Luis Serrano, director of the CRG.

The path to excellence
Right from the time when the Centre for Genomic Regulation was no more than an idea, Marian Marrodán was focused on making it a reality. Working hand in glove with the centre’s first director, Miguel Beato, some scientists and a small management team that came up with the project, Marrodán has successfully managed an institute that has achieved scientific excellence and which has turned out to be a pioneering and innovative management model.

Fourteen years at the management helm have allowed her to contribute to all aspects of growth at the CRG. Now, even though her time as CEO is drawing to a close, Marrodán will continue her links with the centre by collaborating in other management functions that she has been entrusted with during the transition.

Marian Marrodán has been an example and a unique leader who has made a decisive contribution to the success of the CRG”, declares Miguel Beato, senior scientist and first director of the centre, and he insists “our centre would not be where it now is without her tenacity and vision to efficiently achieve a balance between the scientists’ requests and the obligations of a public research centre”. The current director, Luis Serrano, adds “We must thank Marian for the success we have managed to attain, she has been a key player in the excellence achieved at all levels”.

Looking to the future
After fourteen years heading up the management team at the Centre for Genomic Regulation, Marian Marrodán passes the baton to Bruna Vives who is facing her new position with enthusiasm, determination and new projects. Bruna Vives has built up and led the CRG’s Grants and Academic Management Department over last the eight years and has participated in numerous strategic projects at the centre. Her vision and management have made this department an example to follow and a success story, as CRG is one of the most successful Spanish centres in attracting European grants. In addition, her international work experience together with her academic training in European Affairs and Law will allow her to face the future challenges in her new role as CEO of the CRG.
