The Centre for Genomic Regulation CRG credited as "Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence"
- Five research centers, chosen among 30 finalists, were awarded in the 2012 edition.
Barcelona, October 26, 2012. The CRG has been accredited as a "Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence” by the Ministry of Research, Development and Innovation. Accreditation aims to "identify and promote spanish centers and research units which are among the best in the world in their field."
The award is valid for the next four years and will fund the centres with 1 million euros a year. It will strengthen the research capacities of the centers, providing access to other competitive grant programs and large research facilities. Moreover, this recognition will also expand their visibility to obtain new sponsorships.
The choice was made by an international scientific committee with more than 70 worldwide recognized researchers in their area, from 12 different countries. The five centers recently accredited have been selected among the best 30 research centers and units finalists for this call.
The five centers selected in the 2012 call are:
- Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG)
- Doñana Biological Station CSIC
- Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE)
- Institute for Theoretical Physics UAM / CSIC
- Instituto de Tecnología Química (ITQ)
